What
Is The CGIC
You
may not have realized the Green Industry is so large because you
may not think of the businesses making up the Green Industry together
as one industry. When we say Green Industry we mean all the people,
products and businesses that grow, build, maintain and sell the
plants that make up California's landscapes, our green infrastructure.
They
include:
| |
gardeners |
| |
wholesale
and retail nurseries |
| |
landscape
contractors |
| |
landscape
architects |
| |
irrigation
experts, manufacturers and retailers |
| |
department
store garden centers |
| |
pest
management professionals/applicators |
| |
arborists |
| |
sod
growers |
| |
fertilizer
manufacturers and retailers |
| |
flower
growers |
| |
golf
course maintenance staff and suppliers |
| |
groundskeepers |
| |
botanical
gardens |
| |
commercial
composters and more |
We
are the people who grow the flat of pansies you buy at the local
nursery, the people who trim street trees and mow lawns. Wages run
the gamut from highly paid designers, to entry level jobs for the
less skilled. Almost unique among California's industries, the Green
Industry creates this huge economic impact while providing a tremendous
environmental benefit, mitigating the effects of intensive urban
living. As California continues to grow, the need for a healthy,
growing green infrastructure will necessitate an ever-growing Green
Industry.
